Karel Zeman Museum Celebrates Its 14th Birthday – Journey to the Beginning of Time
2–4 October 2026
Karel Zeman Museum, Saský dvůr, Prague 1

The Karel Zeman Museum celebrates its 14th birthday from 2 to 4 October 2026 with a special weekend inspired by the legendary film Journey to the Beginning of Time (Cesta do pravěku). Dedicated to the internationally acclaimed Czech filmmaker behind classics including Invention for Destruction and The Fabulous Baron Munchausen, the museum invites children and adults on an adventure filled with dinosaurs, trilobites and the magic of filmmaking.

The main event takes place on Friday, 2 October at 17:00, with the launch of the new book Deník cesty do pravěku (Journey to the Beginning of Time Diary) in the museum courtyard. Author Jakub Fabel will be joined by Josef Lukáš, one of the actors from the original film, followed by an autograph session. Admission to the book launch and autograph session is free. Special museum tours with palaeontologist Štěpán Rak will also reveal fascinating secrets of prehistoric life, taking place on Friday at 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00 and on Saturday at 16:00 and 17:00.

The adventure continues outside the museum with a trilobite treasure hunt. Numbered trilobites will be hidden around the surrounding area, with clues published on the museum's social media channels. Anyone who finds one will receive a free copy of the new diary. Visitors can also use the Cinemo – Journey to the Beginning of Time app to take photos with dinosaurs around the museum; showing a photo at the ticket desk during the birthday week gives a 25% discount on any type of museum ticket.

Come and celebrate 14 years of the Karel Zeman Museum, follow in the footsteps of the young adventurers from Journey to the Beginning of Time and rediscover a film that has inspired generations to explore a world of imagination, adventure and prehistoric wonders.
