Live butterflies return to enchant visitors at Prague Botanic Garden

An annual exhibition of exotic butterflies visited by thousands of children and adults will be held from April 19 to June 2, 2024 at Prague Botanic Garden in Troja. Iridescent butterflies among blooming tropical plants will be on view at Fata Morgana Greenhouse. Enchanting and educational exhibition will introduce 5.000 pupae and 50 types of butterflies, brought from from a butterfly farm in Stratford-upon-Avon, in lush tropical vegetation of the tropical jungle.

This year´s exhibition will focus on the mysterious aspects of their life. You will learn how butterflies seek food for themselves and for the caterpillars. You will find out what butterflies are poisonous and how the poison gets from a plant through a caterpillar to a butterfly. Why the wings of some butterflies shine? How do they find the the right partners. Which butterfly species travel great distances every year during its annual migration? How butterflies fly thousands of kilometers without getting lost? How far can butteflies fly? How does the metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly actually work?

An exhibition offers an opportunity to learn more about the butterfly lifecycle stages, the process of metamofphosis and about butterfly's roles in ecosystems.

Enjoy a fascinating experience and explore the beautiful forms and bright colors of butterflies, the intricacy of their markings, and their graceful movement in the air and around flowers!
