The Spejbl and Hurvínek Theatre was established in Pilsen in 1930 by Prof. Josef Skupa (1892-1957) as the first professional puppet theatre in Czechoslovakia. Its main characters Spejbl (1920) and Hurvínek (1926) - a father and son team – gained enormous popularity among children and adults due to the humour and satire combined with visual and musical settings. The duo also appears in a popular television show, bedtime stories for children or comedy albums.
