Día de los Muertos Festival Lights Up Holešovice Market

On Thursday, November 5, 2026, Holešovice Market in Prague once again transforms into a vibrant celebration of Mexican traditions with the annual Día de los Muertos festival.

This hugely popular event attracts thousands of visitors every year, drawing both locals and international guests eager to experience the colours, flavours and rhythms of one of Mexico’s most important holidays. From 11:00 to 23:00, the Market becomes a lively hub of food, music, colour and remembrance.

A central element of the festival is the traditional Mexican altar, or ofrenda, carefully prepared with the support of the Embassy of the United Mexican States. Richly decorated and deeply symbolic, the altar honours departed loved ones and gives visitors an opportunity to discover more about the meaning and traditions of Día de los Muertos.

The programme offers plenty to enjoy throughout the day. Market Square and the Eastern Promenade will host two outdoor gastro zones from 11:00 to 22:00, with dozens of stalls serving Mexican specialities such as tacos, quesadillas, churros and traditional drinks. The programme also includes mariachi musicians, a DJ, costumed stilt walkers and a colourful festival parade through the Market.

Inside Hall 13 (13:00–20:00), the free Mexican Market brings together Mexican products, food and brands, alongside creative workshops, bars and face painting. It is another opportunity to discover Mexican culture, flavours and traditions under one roof.

Children and families are warmly welcomed at Día de los Muertos with a specially designed Mexican Carnival in Hall 11 (13:00–19:00). During the one-hour sessions, children can join a Mexican dance workshop and disco, try throwing games with glowing Mexican skulls, and create their own colouring pictures, puppets and masks. Families can also meet a real Xoloitzcuintli, the ancient Mexican dog closely associated with Día de Muertos, and discover Mexican traditions in a playful way with Mexikopedie by Eva Kubátová. The programme runs in hourly time slots, with the final session beginning at 18:00. Admission to Hall 11 is 100 CZK per person, while the gastro zones and Hall 13 are free.
