The National Memorial on Vítkov Hill

Under the name National Liberation Memorial, the memorial was built in the years 1928–1938 in honour of the Czechoslovak legionaries; it was re-built and extended after the end of the WW2 in order to commemorate the second – anti-Nazi resistance. After 1948, it was used to promote national ideology and regime.

Historie budovy
Nejstarší část nové budovy Národního muzea, projektovaná Jaroslavem Rösslerem, byla dostavěna v roce 1938 a sloužila jako Pražská burza peněžní a zbožní. V letech 1945–1946 zde sídlil parlament. V roce 1964 byl zpracován první návrh přestavby budovy, na kterém se podíleli architekti Karel Prager, Jiří Kadeřábek a Jiří Albrecht.

Kinsky Folly, located in romantical Kinsky Garden between Prague quarters of Lesser Town and Smíchov, was built between 1827-1831 by architect Heinrich Koch in the Empire style. Since 1901, this unique summerhouse is seat of the ethnographical museum which is documenting traditional folk culture of the Czech lands – Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia.

Antonín Dvořák Museum

Since its foundation in 1932, the Antonín Dvořák Museum has resided at the Baroque villa “America” in Prague’s New Town. The house, surrounded by a beautiful garden featuring statues from the workshop of Matyáš Bernard Braun, was built at the beginning of the 18th century by Count Jan Václav Michna of Vacínov according to the design of the distinguished architect Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer.

Lapidary of the National Museum

The Lapidarium of the National Museum exhibition called “The monuments of stone carving in Bohemia from the 11th to 19th Century” informs visitors about the methods of mining, with the utilisation and processing of rocks used for stone carving, and about the care of damaged stone artefacts in the introductory display cases.

Czech Museum of Music

The new seat of the Czech Museum of Music is located in the former Baroque church of St. Mary Magdalene at Lesser Side, built in the 17th Century according to the proposal of Francesco Caratti. The church was gradually rebuilt after the dissolution of the Dominican Monastery in 1783. Among other things, it served as a Police barracks and archive.
