Prague in October
October settles over Prague with a particular kind of theatre: chestnut leaves collecting on cobblestones, mist rolling off the Vltava at dawn, and the city's famous silhouette lit up after dark in ways that make even lifelong residents stop and look twice. It is a month when the tourist crowds thin just enough for locals to reclaim their favourite corners, while the cultural calendar quietly becomes one of the richest of the year.
From 9 October to 1 November 2026, the Prague Botanic Garden transforms its autumn landscape into a journey millions of years back in time with its annual Pumpkin Exhibition, this year themed Prehistoric World. Dinosaurs, giant prehistoric insects, mammoths and early humans emerge among imaginative pumpkin arrangements, sculptures and interactive installations spread across the Ornamental Garden, Upper Garden and Forest exhibition. Created by the garden’s horticultural team together with students of the Czech Horticultural Academy Mělník, the exhibition combines the colours and textures of autumn with a playful vision of the distant past, offering plenty to discover – and photograph – along the way.
