Krkonoše, sometimes referred as the „Giant Mountains”, are the highest mountains in the Czech Republic and the oldest National Park. It features the highest peak of the Czech Republic – Sněžka (1 602 m2). The river Elbe rises here and it is by far the most popular skiing destination and vacation area. Giant Mountains boast a number of well-groomed and well-organised ski resorts. Špindlerův Mlýn, Harrachov, Pec pod Sněžkou, Jánské Lázně and Černý Důl belong among the most visited ones. All these ski resorts have something for everyone. They feature piste areas for all skiers levels, numerous kids clubs, ski schools, ski rentals, refreshment kiosks, restaurants, which cater to all tastes.
They offer many adrenaline and leisure time activities, such as snow tubing, sledge or toboggan runs, paragliding, night skiing, ice-skating, horse riding or hockey. The visitor can enjoy numerous swimming pools, whirlpools, saunas, massages, spa and beauty treatments.
Špindlerův Mlýn has the reputation of the most stylish city of the Giant Mountains. What makes it even more special is that it is often visited by Czech celebrities. It is easily accessible from the capital and offers vibrant nigh life, lively bars and discos.
A luxury and glamour of some Alpine resorts is not to be found in the Giant Mountains but you can be usually sure of snow and get a good value for money. The mountains are impressive with an unspoilt and captivating scenery, forests and streams, and some traditional charming mountain villages.
