From 9 October to 1 November 2026, the Prague Botanic Garden transforms its autumn landscape into a journey millions of years back in time with its annual Pumpkin Exhibition, this year themed Prehistoric World. Dinosaurs, giant prehistoric insects, mammoths and early humans emerge among imaginative pumpkin arrangements, sculptures and interactive installations spread across the Ornamental Garden, Upper Garden and Forest exhibition. Created by the garden’s horticultural team together with students of the Czech Horticultural Academy Mělník, the exhibition combines the colours and textures of autumn with a playful vision of the distant past, offering plenty to discover – and photograph – along the way.
The exhibition is accompanied by a rich seasonal programme for families. Creative workshops take place on 9–11 and 15–18 October, followed by the ever-popular pumpkin carving from 22–25 October and lantern-making workshops from 28 October to 1 November. Face painting and sand-art activities are available every weekend. The season culminates on 31 October with the garden’s Halloween celebration, featuring an afternoon of music, competitions and creative activities before the traditional lantern parade sets off through the darkened garden at 18:00. For the final weekend, on 31 October and 1 November, selected pumpkin installations will also be specially illuminated after 18:00.
Yet the setting is what makes this one of Prague’s most appealing October traditions. The Prague Botanic Garden in Troja offers a rare pocket of nature within the city, and in autumn its gardens take on an entirely different character, with changing foliage providing a spectacular backdrop to the pumpkins and prehistoric creatures. Come for the dinosaurs and Halloween fun, stay for a long autumn walk, and enjoy a seasonal event where imagination, nature and the beauty of the garden come together. The Pumpkin Exhibition is included in the standard admission to the Prague Botanic Garden.
When: 9 October–1 November 2026
