Municipal house (Obecní Dům), an important Art Nouveau landmark and concert hall, is located close to the Old Town and Wenceslas Square and right next to the Powder Tower (Prašná Brána). Constructed in 1905 - 1911, Municipal House was a popular place for social and cultural events, such as concerts, exhibitions, balls, celebrations and exhibitions.
The interior includes many halls with beautiful decorations, mostly called after important politicians. Many famous Czech painters and sculptors participated in the decoration of the bulding, e.g. Karel Špillar, Jan Preisler, Max Švabinský, J.V. Myslbek, Alfons Mucha.
Smetana Hall, named after famous Czech composer Bedřich Smetana, is one of the most recognisable concert spaces and the place of work of the Czech National Symphonic Orchestra.
