Communication   Dialling within the country: the national dialling code is + 420, Prague area code – 2 (e.g. +420 (country code) 2 (area code) + number). Check the current rates with your telecommunication company – usually you have to pay higher rates for both incoming and outgoing calls when you are abroad.

Bussineshours   Bank and offices are usually open from 9.00 – 17.00. Shops and supermarkets in the centre are usually open from 9.00 – 20.00.

Txi   It should not be taken for granted that all taxi drivers take the shortest or the fastest route from the starting point to the final destination. In order to avoid an unpleasant experience with an incorrect taxi driver, always take the certified taxi drivers and registered companies (e.g. AAA Radiotaxi, City Taxi, Profi Taxi).

Exchange   The legal currency is the Czech Crown, abbreviated as CZK or Kč. One euro is approximately 24 CZK and one US dollar is about 19 CZK. Never attempt to exchange money on the street. You are likely to receive a pile of worthless notes  of a different currency. The most convenient and secure way is to withdraw money from a cash dispenser. You may also change money in a bank or in the official exchange office. But note that rates in some exchange offices (e.g. in the airport) are 10 – 20% less than the official rate.

Tips   It is always a good idea to check the bill in the restaurant. It may happen that the tourists are overcharged or some extra items are added on their bill. Prices listed on the restaurant menu include all taxes. It is not obligatory to leave the tip, but people usually do so if they are happy with the service. The average tip is around 10 - 15%.

Safety   Prague is considered to be a safe city and the cases of violent crime against tourists are extremely rare. However, the property crime is as frequent as in all big cities. So you should be aware of pickpockets and take following preventive measures to protect your possession and documents:

- Leave your valuables, passport, and big amount of cash money in the hotel safe. Bring with you only the copy of the passport or your identity card.

- Do not take out your wallet, money or cell. phone in a busy areas.

- Mind your handbag, wallet or camera in the historical centre of Prague (Old Town or Wenceslas square etc.) and in the crowded mass transportation vehicles.

- Always lock your car and do not leave anything on visible places.

At night you should be particularly careful on the Wenceslas Square, in the main railway station and the park surrounding the station. These areas are known for higher number of drug users, prostitutes and homeless people.
